You might think that every dog toy that you end up purchasing from a store will be safe for your pug. However, that is not the case. You have to be really careful when you are out there on a hunt for pug toys because you never know how certain toys can prove to be dangerous for them. Many times, pugs themselves will be most attached to toys which have the potential of harming them the most. Certain toys can be chewed off, or a few of their parts can fall off. These kinds of toys can choke your pug. Here is a list of toys that are most dangerous for your pug:

1. Balls

Small and slippery balls are a potential choking hazard for your dogs. The best balls for your dog to play with are tennis balls which are quite big and fuzzy; there’s no way your pooch will be able to swallow them. There are, however, special dog tennis balls that contain lead and arsenic in them. These carcinogens can prove to be quite harmful for your pugs. Be sure never to use such balls.

2. Stuffed Toys

Stuffed toys are not good for pugs, especially if they are a little too playful and like to tear and rip toys apart. For instance, if a stuffed toy has buttons as eyes, then these buttons can fall off and the dog might swallow them. The stuffing that is inside the stuffed toy might also prove to be highly dangerous for your pugs because their intestines can be blocked if they ever swallowed the stuffing of these toys.

3. Bones

If you want to give a chicken bone for your dog to play with and chew on, then be sure that the bone is not too tiny. Little bones can be a choking hazard for your pugs because they can accidentally swallow them. The best solution to this problem is to purchase a bone that is especially designed for dogs.

4. Rawhide Chews

You pug might love to chew on this. However, this might not be good for their health. Large pieces of rawhide can break off into pieces and thus get swallowed by your pet. These can then cause blockages or be stuck in their intestine. Rawhide chew can also become slick and soft overtime, thereby becoming a choking hazard. Also, rawhide is sometimes treated formaldehyde. This is a carcinogen which cannot be digested very easily, and therefore, your pug can suffer from bloating.

5. Painted Toys

If a dog toy has paint on it, then it is probably not safe for your dog to chew on. A few of the experts also say that the ceramic bowls in which your pug eats should also not be painted in order to avoid any potential harm or toxicity. Paint usually contains lead which is poisonous for dogs. If they ingest lead, they can suffer from a lot of problems such as vomiting, muscle tremors, diarrhea, weakness, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite.

Pugs will never know what is right and wrong for them. They will simply chew on anything they like. Therefore, you need to make sure that you remain vigilant about what they can and cannot have.
